Pro Tips

A phyg (also refered to as a flying pig) is a common passive mob and a source of porkchops and feathers. They can be ridden when equipped with a saddle.

Spawning

Phygs spawn above aether grass blocks with a light level above 8 in groups of 3-4 adult phygs during world generation.

Breeding

Upon successful breeding, 1-7 experience is dropped.

1–3 experience is dropped when phygs are killed by a player or a tamed wolf.

Killing a baby phyg yields no items or experience.

Behavior

An adult and baby.

Phygs wander aimlessly, avoiding falling off cliffs higher than 3.5 blocks and jumping into lava. They fall slowly and are immune to fall damage. If harmed, phygs flee for a few seconds.

Phygs follow players holding blue berries within 10 blocks of them and can be attached to leads.

Breeding

A phyg follows a player holding blue berries but stop following the player if separated by at least 10 blocks.

After they are given blue berries, adult phygs pair off to create offspring, granting 1-7 experience. The parents have a cooldown of 5 minutes before they can breed again.

Baby phygs grow to adulthood after 20 minutes, although their growth can be slowly accelerated using berries; each uses reduces 10% of the remaining time to grow up. A baby phyg that results from breeding attempts to follow it's parent. If separated from its parent by more than 16 blocks, it pathfinds to another adult phyg within 8 blocks. They will prefer to follow a player with berries over their parent.

Riding

A saddled and mounted phyg gliding through the air towards a Bronze Dungeon.

It is possible to saddle and ride adult phygs. Baby phygs cannot be saddled nor ridden.

When controlled by a player, phygs do not float on water. They can be ridden in water up to 2 blocks high before the player is dismounted.

Mounted phygs travel at a speed of around 13 blocks/s. Pressing jump while riding and on the ground launches the phyg upwards almost 14 blocks and pressing dismount while in the air accelerates its falling speed.
