Killing a baby moa yields no items or experience.
Usage
Tamed and saddled moas can be used as a means of transportation. When ridden, they are able to move faster and jump higher than a normal player. Moas can be used to expediently travel from islands and clear tall obstacles.
Moas cannot float on water when being controlled by a player. However, they can be ridden in water up to 2 blocks deep. In deeper water, the player is automatically dismounted.
Moas can be pulled along and tied up using a lead. Alternatively, a player can use a Nature Staff to command the moa to sit or follow closely.
Riding
Once a moa is raised and saddled, the player can control it with standard directional controls, jump, and the mouse. The player dismounts using the dismount control. Like other entities, it is impossible to go through a portal while riding.
A ridden saddled moa automatically runs up any slope under 1.5 blocks high. The moa and rider can safely fit through a space as low as 2.5 blocks high. Lower clearance risks suffocating the rider if the rider's head enters a non-transparent block. Moas themselves will pathfind through 3 block high gaps but can be dragged with a lead through 2.5 block high gaps.
The maximum speed while riding on land is 12.98 blocks per second, somewhat faster than player speed. Jumping and gliding through the air is much faster. Speed on land is affected by potions.
Moas have jump charges, represented as feathers on the top of the screen when riding. Moas fly up nearly 5 blocks and consume a charge when pressing jump. They can continue to jump midair until the charges are depleted. Landing on a block refills charges.
While riding a moa, a player's hunger bar is replaced with the moa's health bar.
Behavior
Moas wander aimlessly and avoid hazards like powder snow, fire, and lava. They fall slowly and are immune to fall damage. If harmed, moas flee for a few seconds.
While in a loaded chunk, moas lay an egg every five to ten minutes (6000-1200 ticks). If the player is close enough when it lays an egg, a popping sound is heard.
Roaming moas will attack Aechor Plants, Golden Swets, and Swets within ? blocks.
Pressing use on a moa with a Nature Staff makes it sit or stand up. sneak and use while it is standing makes it closely follow the player.
